Kobe got his 5th ring last night as LA beat Boston 83-79 in Game 7 of the NBA finals last night. Bryant didn’t play efficiently but he got it done when it mattered and scrapped to put up 23 points and grab 15 rebounds. That along with Pau Gasol’s 19 points and 18 boards plus Ron Artest’s 20 points (also QUEENSBRIDGE and Ron Ron’s psychiatrist) led the 2010 Lakers to avenge the ’08 Finals loss to the Celtics.

Now the ever present Kobe v. Jordan debate will heighten. Has Kobe caught Michael? Or only closed the gap? What do you think? Kobe or MJ?

Kobe and the Lake Show answered in a huge way last nite with an 89-67 win over the C’s. Kobe did pretty much everything and the stat line showed it…26 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Unless you’re a big Celtics fan ur probly pretty happy with all that since now we get what everybody wants…Game 7 ! Check it out Thursday night on ABC.

We launched the last Jordan 23 that there will ever be on the 23rd of December. We only had 23 pairs of these shoes that were such a hot item for this Christmas.  Thanks to all of the devoted Jordan fanatics we had people lined up at the store Saturday for a Tuesday launch.  These guys and City Gear had a good time with this event.  City Gear donated 23% of the sales to the Porter-Leath charity.  Thanks a lot guys, we will be sending out the emails with the pictures from the event.

Birmingham AL – City Gear participated in the fall fashion show put on by the Western Hills Mall in Birmingham, AL on Saturday, September 27th. Attendees got a look at the newest hot fashions coming for fall. The Models provided for the show were from South Models of Birmingham, and after the show some did double-duty as live mannequins in the City Gear display windows.

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Western Hills Mall City Gear in Birmingham held a “Respect my Vote” registration drive on September 13th.  The drive was a great success, registering over 150 voters.  In attendance was artist Lady Kayne, DJ Bulldog and representatives from the City of Birmingham.

MEMPHIS, TN – The City Gear on American Way Rd. in Memphis held it’s third annual Southern Heritage Classic tailgate party and sale on Friday, September 12th.  There were hot dogs, drinks and funnel cakes, and hot deals on red tag shorts and other items to fire up the fans arriving for the game on Saturday.  The Southern Heritage Classic is an annual football game between Tennessee State University and Jackson State University, played in Memphis’ Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.  TSU beat JSU 41 to 18.  It was the first time the classic had been broadcast to US troops around the world.

ATLANTA, GA – City Gear sponsored the Allied Athlete Group’s (AAG) release party on August 31st in Buckhead. AAG is an organization of professional athletes assembled for the welfare and support of their members and their families. In attendance were the founders of AAG; Duane Starks, Ray Lewis, Michael Stone and Reggie Howard. Also in attendance were such notables as ”Dr. J” Julius Erving, Dorsey Levens and Brian Jordan.

MEMPHIS, TN – The AND1 Mixed Tape Tour was held in Memphis at Hamilton High School on Friday, July 18. The Reggie Howard Foundation was selected as the Memphis recipient of the $2,500 nonprofit donation at the game halftime activity.

MEMPHIS, TN – Former University of Memphis and current NFL standouts Reggie Howard, DeAngelo Williams of the Carolina Panthers, along with Mike Mckenzie, Marcus Bell and DeHae Townsend hosted the 3rd Annual Professional and Sports Leadership Camp for middle and high school athletes. The 2008 camp was held at the University of Memphis South Campus and included a football and cheerleading camp. The cheerleading camp was led by the Houston High School cheerleaders.  The camp ran from June 20-21, 2008. Over 600 kids attended the event.
